Tralee Suite The Rose of Tralee is the Irish equivalent to Miss America. Begun in Ireland in 1959 by businessmen hoping to encourage tourism, this contest was more than a beauty contest. The winner was to be chosen for her good character and personal qualities. The event has become such a success in Ireland that it is a 5 day festival with attendance well over 100,000. The Rose of Tralee contest is one of the top 10 televised events in Ireland each year. The contest is held annually in late August.
